After visiting Megeve this winter Victoria our Admistration Manager reviews what Megeve had to offer!
Fancy rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous in beautiful surroundings? Victoria our Administration Manager checks out Megève and all it has to offer…
Megève has a reputation for being a fabulous resort where you can rub shoulders with the rich and famous which is not far wrong, all around you are surrounded by people in their fur jackets with their chauffeurs and helicopter transfers! So when the lift pass company Remontées Mécaniques de Megève offered a couple of nights stay in their apartment located at the top of the Chamois lift, although I was very excited I was also apprehensive as to whether we would be able to afford to go there! I always travel as budget as possible and despite the glamorous image Megève has I’m pleased to report we still managed to keep within budget in Megève!
The transfer from Geneva is about an hour – making it seem almost effortless getting to the resort from the UK. We used Skicab (one of Erna Low’s transfer partners) for our transfer to the resort who gave a safe, timely and value for money service.
As soon as you arrive you are hit by how stunning the resort is, offering an abundance of cobbled streets, pretty traditional alpine buildings, a beautiful Christmas tree decorated in Swarovski crystals and a mind blowing view of the surrounding mountains. It offers the charm of a small alpine village despite it being the size of a large town. **

Megève is a huge resort, which is hard to comprehend when looking at a map what it will be like, until you experience it firsthand. We were only there for a short time but we soon got our bearings. I would say having a car would be an advantage but is not necessary as the resort bus service runs frequently and throughout all areas of the resort.
Prices in the bars and restaurants are high as the quality and service you receive warrants it and the clientele can afford it; but if like me you need something a little cheaper you can shop around and find some affordable restaurants and bars or self cater. Jenny, our ‘guide’ for the trip told us a quick and easy recipe for tartiflette which we made one evening and devoured! So even if you can’t afford to eat the local food in the local restaurant’s every night, why not decide before you go away which French recipes you would like try and go to the local supermarket armed with a shopping list on your arrival. I guarantee with tartiflette and beef bourguignon among other recipes on your list you will be looking forward to cooking each evening and for the ‘pièce de résistance’ purchase a few bottles of the local Savoie wine to enjoy with your meal!
The skiing is varied with a lot of beautifully tree lined runs. Different areas break up your days, so you can choose an area to explore one day or more then move on to the next. With 445km of slopes to explore you will not be disappointed!
I would recommend Megève for everyone skiers, non skiers, families with young children and people looking for a resort with a lot of je ne sais quoi!

Erna Low currently offer three residences in Megève from the budget Residence Rochbrune located perfectly opposite the Rochbrune cable car to the 4 star Residence Les Loges Blanches. So when you are thinking about where to go next in the French Alps for your mountain fix, why not consider Megève? ***
